OUR STORY
Established in Salmon Arm, BC in 2018.
Tanto Latte Cheese is dedicated to producing the best quality Italian cheese products for the BC market. Our products are made from 100% Canadian whole milk, with locally sourced ingredients. Luigi Ornaghi, the company’s founder, is an Italian cheese maker and an international chef. He has had more than 5 years of experience in cheese production and over 20 years of experience in the food industry.
Tanto Latte uses original classic Italian recipes for all of the cheese products. From the world renowned Mozzarella to other fresh and aged cheese, our cheese strictly follows traditional Italian recipes. 75% of our production focuses on Mozzarella Bocconcini. Our other products like Burrata and Ricotta follow recipes from the regions of Piedmont and Southern Italy. Aside from our fresh cheese products, visit our store for a small selection of aged cheese and blue cheese.
OUR EXPERIENCED CHEESE MAKER
Luigi Ornaghi studied to become a chef in Piedmont, Italy. He began his culinary career there in the 1990s. He immersed himself in the Piedmontese cooking experience, working primarily in the Langhe territory, which is internationally reknowned as the most important truffle area in Italy. His longing for further knowledge and experience led him to travel to, and work in most of the other Italian regions, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and Argentina, his wife home town.
Luigi spent a significant part of his career in Monte Carlo, a location known for the high culinary standards of its residents and visitors, as well as its unique bridging of French and Italian cuisine.
Luigi was able to transfer the skills he gained in the area of food preparation, along with his keen attention to detail, merging his experience with his overwhelming passion for cheesemaking.
Luigi and Susana with their friends Pam & Dave have created Tanto Latte Ltd. Toghether they have one overriding objective in mind: to produce the best, finest quality of authentic Italian cheese in BC.
Dave & Pam Francis moved from Winnipeg, MB to Calgary, AB in 1997 to pursue careers in accounting and finance. Over the years, a summertime vacation in the Okanagan became an annual family tradition. This allowed them to develop an appreciation for the region’s fondness for high quality, locally produced food and wine. After reviewing Luigi’s business plan for a start up cheese factory in the area, they were impressed by both his ideas and his passion for cheesemaking. They were excited to become partners in this venture as they believed it would blend seamlessly into the vibrant culinary culture of the area.
